Dance & Sport collide @ Devon Games to Inspire 2010
On July 10th, Rosie Allen-Perdikeas, Youth Dance Champion for West Devon (funded through Youth Dance England) masterminded a vibrant dance element in the Devon Games to Inspire programme. This is the third year running the partnership between Dance in Devon and the Youth Games organisers has enabled dance to have a significant presence at the county-wide event.
Rosie and three other dance practitioners led 59 young people from 6 different district teams in a two and a half hour workshop to learn a contemporary sports based dance piece entitled Limba Limbo incorporating sports events from the day including: swimming, tennis, athletics and skateboarding. Limba Limbo was then performed later on in the afternoon at the closing ceremony in front of all the day's participants, their supporters and Heather Fell, Olympic Silver Medallist in the Modern Pentathlon.
Rosie says of the event: "The groups had never met before or knew any of the movement material, they all worked extremely hard and very well together and what they achieved in the space of an afternoon was fantastic, with a show stopping performance!"
