Inspire Review: The Plough Arts Centre

For the 4th year running, The Plough Arts Centre presented to the public a thoroughly entertaining evening full of work, choreographed and performed by an ever growing community of youth dance in the North oF Devon and Cornwall.

The evening consisted of 9 displays of youth dance work and exhibited possible future talent from the southwest. The night demonstrated a mixture of cultural, contemporary and street influences, opening with a Chinese festival themed performance full of impressive acrobatics and colourful displays, repetetive gestures and striking flexibility.

The rest of the evening included a literal and emotional solo, a trio of linear movements, interesting lifts and mass unison group phrases that were fast paced, filled with attitude and rhythm. It was truly a vast variety of dance forms and styles that fluctuated through moments of soft lyrical movement to hard and regimented phrases. It was the perfect platform for upcoming dancers to flaunt their love and enthusiasm for movement.

Inspire is coordinated by Dance in Devon and sees a group of keen youth dancers spend a week at The Plough Art Centre with a young choreographer creating a new dance work to present in the show. Supported by Extended Schools and "Aim Higher" it was indeed extremely inspiring to watch such a large number of young dancers aiming to carry out further career development and work in dance as professionals in the future.
