We are thrilled to announce that Jean Green of the Dawlish Diva’s has won the Physical Activity Volunteer of the Year award at the Devon Sports Awards, organised by Active Devon, the County Sport Partnership.
Jean is the Chair of Dawlish Divas, a dance group started by the Dance This Way Project. She has spent many hours contributing to the dance group by leading meetings and helping with funding applications. Jean is always smiling and is part of the backbone of core committee group members who are dedicated to ensure the sustainability of the group. Along with the Vice Chair, Jean has initiated a project called ‘Diva’s on Tour’. This project takes the laughter and benefits of dance to reach even more people by visiting local residential homes.
Tim Jones Chair of Team Devon acknowledged the importance of dance and projects like Dance This Way in attracting people who are not interested in traditional sports options to take part in physical activity.
Competition was stiff with 31 finalists covering over twenty different sports competing in just 10 Award categories. The nominees shortlisted covered a variety of important roles such as volunteers, officials and coaches – the driving force behind the scenes that help develop athletes in the county, coming from backgrounds including sports clubs, coaching sessions and community initiatives.
