Jane Mason trained in theatre before working as a dancer for choreographers including : Wayne McGregor, Charles Linehan, Colin Poole, balletLorent, Deborah Hay and Emilyn Claid amongst others. Since 1997 she creates performance work under her own name (Singer, Come on Sun, The Brow) and films (Andout, Hard Told, The Pleasure of Gliding) alongside choreographing in various collaborative contexts with companies such as Lone Twin and Quarantine.
She is currently developing a new work Life Forces in collaboration with dramaturg David Williams and filmmaker/animator Magali Charrier and choreographing and performing in Blind Ditch’s This City’s Centre for the Unexpected Festival in Exeter.
Jane has a special interest working with non-performers including : Lone Dances three contrasting solos created for young men commissioned by South East Dance and film Hard Told working with Alan Johnson, an elderly man from Heavitree who is deaf also commissioned by South East Dance.
Other ideas in development include Bad Light, a project to work with young men dancing with their dads, using the language of sport to inform choreography.
